Lost Creek Cave Trip - 2006!
-
Originally
chartered in 1916, Troop 81 is the first and oldest Boy Scout troop in Blount County.
After having flourished for nearly 70 years, the troop disbanded in 1985 after
enrollment declined. In November of 1991, Troop 81 celebrated its rebirth and
adopted the mythical phoenix as its official symbol. Troop 81 scouts wear a
specially designed neckerchief emblazoned with the phoenix as a tribute to the
troop's heritage.
-
Today, Troop 81
enrollment numbers approximately 45 scouts, aided by over two dozen volunteer
leaders, at least half of whom are trained Assistant Scoutmasters. The
troops program focuses on the objectives set forth by the organization's mission
statement.
-
First United Methodist Church
sponsors Boy Scout Troop 81 and Cub Scout Pack 81, both members of the Great
Smoky Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts of the troop
and pack participate in a variety of outdoor and cultural activities and perform
various service projects within the community.
-
Cub scouting
prepares young boys for leadership roles, instills a love of country, family and
church, and introduces them to unique experiences in the great outdoors. Pack
81 is a family-oriented program comprised of approximately 70 boys, ages 7-11,
assisted by over a dozen trained volunteer leaders.
